PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

For over 20 years, John has provided highly personalized, tax-advantaged financial guidance to clients in Texas and around the country (with clients spanning 14 different states). His passion for investing began at an early age (his license plate even reads I-N-V-E-S-T). Reading books on investing in his early teens, he tried on his own to open up an account at Dean Witter (now Morgan Stanley) at the age of 16, but the financial advisor told him he was too young and to come back at age 18, which he did. He opened the account and would later have an internship with the company during college.

He graduated summa cum laude from Texas State University with a degree in finance. After graduation, he worked for Edward Jones Investments for almost eight years, receiving the Iron Will award, the most prestigious award the company gives, based upon his "work ethic and love of the business." In 2004, he opened up his own financial consulting firm in Fort Worth, Texas assisting clients with all manners of wealth management.  A lifelong learner, in 2020, he completed his Master's degree in Personal Financial Planning through the College for Financial Planning and attained his MBA through Purdue University.

John holds the following licenses and registrations:

Series 7 (General Securities Representative), Series 63 (Uniform Securities State Law), Series 65 (Uniform Investment Advisor Law), Series 24 (General Securities Principal, held with LPL Financial), and a Group 1 Life and Health Insurance license.

He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and has served on the Board of Directors of the Dallas/Fort Worth Financial Planning Association (FPA). He serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board) and has written and edited content for examinations. He has been cleared as an Ethics Instructor by the CFP Board, and serves as a Hearing Panel Volunteer for the Disciplinary and Ethics Commission of the CFP Board.

John holds the IRS "Enrolled Agent" designation and is a Registered Tax Return Preparer. Enrolled agents have demonstrated special competence in tax matters by successfully passing all parts of the IRS Special Enrollment Exam and can represent taxpayers before all levels of the IRS. He is a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP).

He has successfully obtained the Behavioral Financial Advisor designation, completing all required coursework and the certification exam.  Behavioral Finance Advice (BFA) combines psychology and neuroscience with traditional financial practices.  He is a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC). Awarded through the College for Financial Planning, the CRPC designation focuses on an in-depth knowledge of client needs before and after retirement, with a focus on Social Security, health care during retirement, optimal income strategies, asset management, along with the emotional and financial transition to retirement.  He is an Accredited Wealth Management Advisor (AWMA®).  The AWMA® designation focuses on a course of study encompassing wealth strategies, equity-based compensation plans, tax reduction alternatives, and asset protection alternatives.

He is currently an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University teaching Fundamentals & Ethical Considerations of Financial Planning along with Investment Analysis over select weekends.  He serves as Chair of the Investment Committee for the Girl Scouts of North Texas, providing direction and guidelines for investment-related actions. He has been featured in D Magazine as one of the **Best Financial Planners** for the past ten years (2013,2014,2015,2016,2017,2018,2019,2020,2021,2022) along with being named a Five Star Wealth Manager from 2012-2022 as featured in Texas Monthly. John was also recipient of Fort Worth Magazine's Entrepreneur of Excellence (EOE) Award in 2021. Crescendo Business Services awards the Five Star Wealth Manager by asking consumers to evaluate their manager(s) based on nine different criteria: customer service, integrity, communication, value for fees charged, meets financial objectives, post sales services, quality of recommendations, and overall satisfaction. After filtering through the responses and further evaluation, Crescendo compiles a list that identifies the Five Star Wealth Managers.
